Eines von drei Beispielen für vermutlich römische Spuren in der Mitte des Kottenforsts, womit ein großes Waldgebiet auf der Hauptterrasse westlich und südwestlich von Bonn bezeichnet wird. Der deutlichste römische Befund ist ein Übungslager links oberhalb des modernen Schießstandes. Dicht neben dem Lager führt eine vermutlich römische Straße quer durch die gesamte Grafik Richtung SSE. Nach Westen schließen sich der Straße mehrere sehr große Parzellen an, die im Süden an einem Querweg enden. Weitere Großparzellenreste schließen weiter südlich an. Im Südteil der Grafik sind die Parzellen nicht durch Wälle, sondern durch Gräben voneinander getrennt, was in der Reliefgrafik deutlicher zu erkennen ist. Verstreut gibt es (Mergel?-)Gruben. Ich halte dieses alles für Spuren römerzeitlicher Landnutzung. Allerdings dürften bei der jagdlichen Nutzung durch die Kölner Erzbischöfe auch geradlinige Wege und Schneisen entstanden sein, die man ohne weitere Detailforschung nicht sicher von den vermutlich älteren Spuren unterscheiden kann. One of three examples of presumably Roman traces in the centre of the Kottenforst, a large wooded area on the main terrace to the west and southwest of Bonn. The most obvious Roman feature is a training camp to the left above the modern shooting range. Close to the camp, a presumably Roman road runs right across the entire graphic in the direction of SSE. To the west, the road is adjoined by several very large plots of land, which end at a cross-road in the south. Further remains of large plots are located further south. In the southern part of the graphic, the plots are not separated by embankments but by ditches, which can be seen more clearly in the relief graphic. There are scattered (marl?) pits. I consider these to be traces of Roman land use. However, the hunting use by the archbishops of Cologne may also have created straight paths and aisles, which cannot be reliably distinguished from the presumably older traces without further detailed research.
